Newsflash

In W. Virginia HB2943 & SB504 was introduced as the Joint Parenting Act by Democrats & Republicans to keep fathers involved with their children.  The bill provides for Joint Parenting in divorce/parental separation.  This great bill allows for children to maintain the parent-child bond in both homes.

YWCA against Shared Parenting

The Pierce YWCA of Tacoma Washington has stated their position against Shared Parenting in Washington State.  Their position is to support stronger DV laws in the State, while ignoring the health and well being of children of shared custody homes.  Their position clearly demonstrates that sexual bias is still alive in this womens group!

According to Miriam Barnett, CEO of the Pierce YWCA had this to say about the Shared Parenting Bill being considered in Washington State:  "Bill 5234 creates a rebuttable presumption that when parents split up there will be a shared custody.  As the law stands now, there is no such presumption, and the court is instructed to enter a parenting arrangement that is in the best interest of the child(ren) after application of certain factors.  The law currently provides that the court may enter a shared custody arrangement provided that the parents agree to the shared arrangement and the agreement is knowingly and voluntarily entered into OR there is a history of cooperation between the parents.  Clearly, domestic violence issues effect both."

Clearly Mary, an absense of domestic violence effects both also.  I guess you figure it is okay to trample on the rights of others to achieve your own self-serving agenda.  How much to you get in grants, etc. for DV work?  I'll disclose what we get in promoting Shared Parenting.  Not one plug nickel.  Can you state the same?  If you can't, then clearly your group is a special interest non-profit, benefiting from the misery of others, and in all cases - Children.  In my book I call that Child Abuse.  In my book that makes your organization a supporter of Child Abuse.

Incredibly, Mary went on to suggest that any further questions about their stance on shared parenting should be directed to The Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  She even provided a direct number for them.  I'm trying to understand this?  Isn't the YWCA its own organization, able to make its own decisions, policies and answer questions of its stance on political positions?  Are you currently donating to this organization?  Might your money be better spent sending it to an organization that supports Family Values and the health and welfare of the entire family?      Do you have comments on this story.  Please post them on the blog at WashingtonSharedParenting.com
